Attached is the announcement flyer for the April Wildfire Preparedness and Mitigation Workshops. Each Workshop will be held from 9am to noon in the morning of the up-coming Preparedness Area Meetings (dates and locations are below). Topics to be covered include; why wildfires keep getting bigger; finding solutions through collaboration; interagency fire response; post wildfire flooding and what to do after the fire.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course using a combination of lectures, discussions, activities, and exercises, the course will take participants through the complete process from well before the flood to clean-up afterwards. Officials from every community at risk of flooding should take this training While this training emphasizes how to conduct a flood fight, it provides information to help communities decide if a flood fight is possible and worth the effort and cost. Diagrams with materials lists and equipment and labor requirements to construct various types of temporary flood protection can be used to help determine if there is enough time and resources to protect the community. If the whole community cannot be protected, then officials must decide where to concentrate their efforts to protect some areas and/or evacuate and relocate what they can. If a flood fight is undertaken, it should be done the right way or the effort will be wasted. Instructors should be experienced in flood fighting

Developed by the University of Findlay as a member of the RDPC, this Awareness level course has been developed to educate rural law enforcement personnel as well as school administrators and personnel on the elements that must be in place to effectively respond to a school-based emergency. Rural schools, law enforcement, and other emergency responders are often limited in resources, so it is imperative that all potentially affected parties collaborate on planning, preparing, communicating, responding, and recovering from a school-based incident. This course provides an opportunity to partner the rural emergency response community and the local school systems. Specifically, this course will allow them to collaborate, communicate, and share information, to achieve coordinated awareness of, prevention of, protection against, and response to school-based incidents in a rural community.

The New Mexico Association of Counties (NMAC) is pleased to announce the release of the 2018-2019 Wildfire Risk Reduction for Rural Communities Grant Program. Applications can be submitted electronically or via mail. All applications must be received by NMAC no later than Friday, March 30, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. *All applications must also be submitted to BLM for review by March 9th.

Funding for this program is provided by the National Fire Plan through the Department of the Interior/Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in cooperation with NMAC. The program targets at-risk communities by offering seed money to help defray the costs of reducing wildland fire risk to non-federal WUI areas in New Mexico. Funding is intended to directly benefit communities that may be impacted by wildland fire initiating from or spreading to BLM public land.
The 2018-2019 Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant Program grant cycle will give priority to applicants who request funding for outreach and education projects (i.e. Fire Adaptive Communities, Ready, Set, Go Program) that encourage reducing wildfire risk on non-federal lands and can show a direct benefit to BLM lands. Requirements for New Mexico State Forestry CWPP updates are included with the program information. A limited number of hazardous fuel reduction projects will also be considered. Please review all materials thoroughly and complete the submission checklist before submitting your application packet. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. All applications must be received by the New Mexico Association of Counties office by 5:00 pm on March 30, 2018 and can be submitted electronically email@example.com.
